Not only does Tools™ help you find, describe & apply the right rules and quality standards for every job, it also simplifies the confusion when considering Building Classes.
Why is there volume 1 & 2?
Originally, the BCA (Building Code of Australia – now called the National Construction Code) designed the layout of their publication to only include Rules for all types of buildings except houses. They then added an almost identical set of rules for houses, townhouses, villas and boarding houses in a separate publication – called Volume 2.
The principles of most building work only need to be explained once.
Otherwise we may get muddled by words in 2 places saying much the same thing. Or Designers or Contractors waste valuable time because they are compelled to refer to 2 Volumes of information for an issue which can be explained in one.
For instance the Rules for balustrades, masonry, windows, tiling, plasterboard, joinery, services, concrete etc, relate to ALL Classes of Buildings
Tools™ delivers what the NCC wants us to understand
And we do this without 10 different versions. Tools™ cover both Volumes 1 & 2 (and tradie-relevant parts of Vol 3) of the NCC – without anyone needing the 3 Volumes or restating the same issues in 2 different ways.
For fear of being criticised for saying this twice, balustrade, powerpoint, toilet, paint finish, skylight, driveway etc, do not need to be confused by Classes!
Building classes are largely irrelevant!
So let’s call this out – Class of Building is largely irrelevant unless it relates to fire rating or egress. And even these very important ingredients of our Codes are easy to understand if you use the right tools…. haha…… our Egress Tool is now available!
Building knowledge needs to be accessible and easy to understand – so we can build without mistakes, harm or loss to anyone. This is what the wonderful NCC is really about.
Let’s take a stand against Class!
“Down with 10 Classes of door handles!”
“Down with 10 Classes of neutral cure silicone!”
It is more important that we know how to prevent rust in external metals, ’stitch’ sealants properly and understand the golden rules of how to build well!
