This O’meter gives you lots of tips about different substrates for timber flooring.  To me, I don’t care what I fix timber to so long as I know the moisture content of the concrete and floorboards plus size / character of board …. and can chose who lays them, esp. what adhesive system they use.

Timber Floor Installation

If you want trouble, just specify timber floors without knowing what good carpenters know:

  • select hard & durable timber i.e. stiletto proof and rot proof
  • require warping grooves for all boards wider than 90mm
  • blend / separate character and colour of the boards WITH the Client…. and agree. Take a photo for both of you to keep
  • avoid secret nailing of wide boards unless the adhesive you specify is proven
  • keep perimeter movement joints CLEAN
  • choose a non-slip finish, keep some for inevitable scuffs and repairs and store the name for periodic resurfacing – yep, it is so easy to use a different system without this record.
Soon, we’ll give you more tips about butt joints and EJs, different species and bushfire & noise reduction advice.
