Fire / Residential Fire Separation / Adjacent Building (Fire Separation)

1 min read 28 June 2024

This is a nice little reminder of the Rules everyone needs for Class 1 FRL on or close to a boundaries or a secondary dwelling / Class 10a structure:

  • 900mm is the minimum distance from any boundary
  • 1.8m minimum between the main building & a secondary dwelling or carport
  • basic FRL is a 60/60/60 & self-closing 35mm door (3 hinges, primed all round of course)
  • 1.8m minimum between neighbouring roof lights
  • encroachments are permissible such as meter boxes, awnings, landings etc
  • no FRL is required where a Carport has at least 2 open sides or 2/3 of perimeter is open.
Fire spread is extinguished by our careful design & construction.
