Getting your ceilings looking good needs REAL skill:

    1. planning of joints so they are staggered
    2. backblocking is need at joints
    3. separate the glue lines and screws – get used to this discipline and MARK these out –  I colour code 🙂
    4. butt joints need pushing back – see the Temporary Batten / Nail Packing trick
    5. remember to plan  your CJs in the larger ceilings

No. 1 Tip – Why not warn the Client about ceilings under girder trusses and changes of direction which ALWAYS crack and look uneven?  And then recommend battening the trusses so when Michelangelo looks at the finished job, he gets his paint out quick smart!

And when your ceilings look as good as the fibrous plaster ones of the 1930s – go get plastered with the Team!
