Structure / Concrete / Concrete Threshold with Strip Drain

1 min read 26 July 2024

This should be a favourite detail for everyone – it is just so boringly sensible. And easy to do so water never gets under your Laundry, Garage or Workshop doors. And NEVER floods the landing at the exit door from any fire stair.
I’ve improved this Tool by reminding us about:

  • non-slip to threshold
  • weather strip to base of door in high wind areas
  • avoiding dark coloured timber doors – they twist and supplier won’t replace them
  • promoting steel clad (galvanised) doors esp. where security risk is high. Don’t forget the latch guard 🙂
  • sliding dowel …. Engineer’s don’t like doweling – but I do because of the inevitable settlement of external pavement and the nasty trip hazard it creates.
Finally, you can use these sloping thresholds even when you tile the floor – just place a 3mm waterbar around the top of the threshold. Love this Tool!
