Waterproofing / Waterproofing Quality / Film Thickness Test Points

Waterproofing is a craft like other skills in building. It is about:
  • the science of membranes
  • suitable & clean substrates
  • movement management
  • application quality.

Check Tool

Application is vital to membrane quality. Membranes are ‘coatings’. And every coating has rules about ‘film build’ or thickness. I have applied hundreds of different coatings. Master tradespeople have taught me:

  1. know the coverage so you know how many litres should be applied for each area – this will be easy to find on the bucket
  2. use a roller that will deliver the correct film thickness
  3. apply evenly – this means brush application into corners at same thickness as rolled surfaces
  4. measure film thickness.
Expert Contractors and Supervisors check their membranes in the spots shown on our Tool which our QA Expert Jorj has prepared.. Pppppsssssttttt …….. my view is, we cannot check every high risk point. And water tests? Waste of time except at drain points in shower stalls.

So it is more important to use a Waterproofing Contractor who applies the membrane evenly at the correct litre per metre rate. On every job!
