I rarely self promote, but this Tool is EXACTLY what we should use prior to specifying, adding a new item to Schedule or installing it alongside other products. It is an overdue ‘keeper’.
At the heart of many defects is a poor choice. And too often it is because the Designer & Builder agreed to use a product a Client carelessly chose. Clanger / faceplant emojis!!!! Or it can be our silly mistake because we have hurriedly selected a product that is incompatible or impractical to maintain.
Choosing limestone, engineered flooring, timber veneers, or any mild steel product next to a pool will cost your Client a fortune to maintain or replace. As with accepting stick on door signage that fades. It is like choosing white tiles and grout for a male Railway Toilet floor.
Especially take note of:
- Provenance – ideally a long history of successful use
- Compatible – have you considered how the product will relate to others e.g. hardwood will stain white surfaces, copper / brass corrodes aluminium etc
- Warranties must be unambiguous and easy to action
- Handover – what information does the Client need about a fragile, high cost product e.g. limed floors, carrara marble, motorised roof, Spanish style terracotta roof tiles etc.
I am surprisingly proud of this Tool. AJ ‘crafted’ it quickly in response to the deafening thuds of unintentional faceplants.
