Screeds teach us lots about material science. To me the most important issues are:
- Use a proprietary product esp. when the screed is thin
- Follow all instructions
- Carefully prepare, clean, isolate or prime, bond substrates
- Mix thoroughly (gauge ingredients accurately)
- Use reinforcement where recommended
- Place movement joints directly above joints in structure and as specified
- Check compatibility of membranes, adhesives and sealants.
ppsssttt …. Cover / protect wastes so they are never unintentionally obstructed. And PLEASE ‘capture’ the cement from your mixers, barrows, buckets and tools when you wash them.
