You may not design or install many of these doors but when you do it is not as simple as just planning the opening.

These doors are usually used to quickly separate fire compartments when a fire occurs. If left open, they close when the fire detection system is activated.

Knowledge allows you to position these correctly:

    • 100mm Perimeter Fire Stop (overlap) and maximum bottom clearance
    • Handle / pull location
    • Tagging
    • Signage …. Permanent please.

Futureproofing – these doors are often forgotten once installed. Mechanisms rust, tags / signs get painted over, the counterweight cover gets backed into. Sliding Fire Doors MUST be on the Fire Safety Certificate & be properly maintained including making sure they close automatically when a fire occurs. Understanding how all safety measures must be maintained FOREVER  is something our Industry should get together & strategise 🎓.
