Finishes / Doors / Timber Leaf & Frame Install (Doors)

1 min read 02 August 2024

I ‘adoor’ this Tool™. It illustrates the discipline many Craftspeople have taught me. They ALWAYS:

  • arrise all 12 door edges
  • had equal margins ‘framing’ each door
  • backed off the hinge & latch faces
  • accurately cut down door for floor finish.
And please don’t forget the little, but important details:

  • fix jambs securely above (under) the hinge & never more than 600mm apart
  • one in rebate / one on jamb face
  • screws should extend into structure frame
  • 10g minimum – 25mm to jamb, 32mm into solid core doors
  • paint (prime) them bottom & top edges …… really carefully for wet area & external doors.
Every door should be a ‘Masterpiece’. So your next job will be a ‘Gallery’ …. haha.
