Fire doors in older buildings get misused all the time. This is really serious especially where there is only 1 fire isolated stair. I see doors chocked open, doggy dogs cut in them and occupants yelling at me ‘How else can we hold the door open!”
Well, a failsafe hold open, triggered to close when the fire alarm is activated is the answer. Please look at the tiny RED Release Button which occupants can use to easily close the door. I think this should be lower down but I couldn’t find any requirement regarding the usual accessibility.
